Wisconsin’s new wolf “management” plan leaves wolves imperiled

Wolf recovery is incomplete and unlikely under this new plan. Wisconsin legally mandates a wolf hunt once wolves are delisted but other states do not. Continued oversight by the federal government, including Endangered Species protection is needed in order for Wisconsin to have a healthy wolf population.

Yesterday, the Wisconsin DNR announced the final draft of the agency’s Wolf Management Plan. We will be cautiously optimistic as the plan moves forward for approval by the NRB and hope that the plan will continue to be critically reviewed and updated as we learn more about wolves in Wisconsin.

PRESS RELEASE: Coalition of Animal Welfare, Conservation, and a Native American Tribe Seeks Reinstatement of Federal Wolf Protections

In collaboration with other wildlife advocacy organizations and the Tribes of the Great Lakes, we have filed an amicus brief on behalf of the wolves in Wisconsin to restore the legal protections critical to their survival. We will not let another slaughter like we witnessed in February occur again without a fight.
