ALERT: Things are Wild and not in a good way

The God Squad and Wolf-Hating Congress: Help Save Our Great Lakes Wildlife

I hope this message finds you well. I’m reaching out today with a matter of utmost urgency and importance. The incredible biodiversity of the Great Lakes region is under threat, and we need your support to protect our precious wildlife.

The recent revival of the Endangered Species Act Committee, known as the “God Squad,” has brought immediate threats to our wildlife. Death is imminent due to bird flu, wolf hunting, water pollution, and big timber activities. These dangers put the magnificent wolves, elusive lynx, and graceful cranes that call the Great Lakes region home at significant risk.

The attacks on wolves and the ESA aren’t new. What is new is the cruel chaos that will happen to wildlife.

Why It Matters:

  • Wolves: These apex predators play a crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance of our forests. Their presence helps control prey populations, which in turn supports plant and animal diversity.
  • Lynx: This elusive feline, with its distinctive tufted ears, is a symbol of wilderness. Lynx populations are already fragile, and further threats could push them to the brink of extinction.
  • Cranes: The elegant cranes, with their iconic dances and calls, are a vital part of our wetlands. Their survival is intertwined with the health of these ecosystems.

Our Great Lakes region is a national treasure, and the protection of its wildlife is essential for future generations. We are at a critical juncture, and your support can make a significant difference.

How You Can Help:

  1. Donate: Your financial contributions will directly support conservation initiatives aimed at protecting these endangered species and their habitats. We need to raise $1,500 by Friday for a generous match donation.
  2. Advocate: Join us in advocating for stronger environmental protections and opposing measures that could harm our wildlife.
  3. Spread the Word: Share this message with friends, family, and your community to raise awareness and gather support.

When Melissa and GLWA fight tooth and nail, we win. We rise up, and we support you. We know how it feels to be scared, paralyzed, and overwhelmed, but despite all odds, we are winning. We are calling on you to rise for wildlife. Please come to our evening meeting at 6pm CST or 10am Wednesday CST to learn more about our efforts and how you can get involved.

Use your voice. Reach out to your Members of Congress. Tell them you strongly support the Endangered Species Act. Oppose efforts to weaken it. Do not undermine the protections it provides to wildlife, including both native and non-native species. Connect with your lawmakers and learn how to use truthout.org and Congress.gov to find key players and strategic actions for impactful advocacy. Together, we can rendezvous for the bravest victories. Remember the Wolf Advocate Pack 2021 and come be part of this movement.

Together, we can ensure that the wolves, lynx, and cranes of the Great Lakes continue to thrive in their natural habitats. Please consider making a donation today and standing with us in this crucial fight.

Thank you, Melissa Smith
Executive Director

We have a responsibility to future generations. We must be good stewards and protect imperiled wildlife. We must also safeguard the unique landscapes they call home. Please oppose any congressional effort to weaken the Endangered Species Act. This law serves as a cornerstone of science. It states that the healthiest and most stable natural systems tend to be those with high levels of biodiversity.

Wildlife biologists warn the continued threat on endangered species, like grey wolves, could have significant impacts all the way down the food chain. Over millions of years, the wolf has evolved to play a crucial role in regulating its ecosystem. This regulation ranges from the survival of trees and riverbank vegetation to the health of their prey populations. It is a beautiful, complex tapestry that shows the level of interaction that must happen between apex predators and their environment for the full health of the system.

Once a piece of that puzzle becomes extinct, there is no going back. Extinction is forever.
