Friends,

Did you see our bear harvest report and press release? Here is what the DNR leaves out.

Uncounted. No one tracks how many bears hounds injure or kill. Bears are run for miles in the heat, across roads, with nowhere to cool down. Up to 15% die of heat stroke within a day.
85%
of a northern bear’s diet can be hunter bait. It is changing bears on a molecular level.
Chocolate
in bear bait is lethal to cubs. The DNR has the power to ban it and refuses.
43%
of hounds sent after bears are injured or killed
~$2 million
paid to date for hounds killed by wolves after being put in harm’s way

“If you run dogs on bear, you’re eventually going to have a dog that is severely injured or killed by wolves. It’s a guarantee.”

Randy Johnson, DNR Large Carnivore Specialist

Black bear cub in a tree: Will you donate to help protect me from hounds? Your gift is matched up to $500.

“We know how hard things are right now. Groceries, rent, gas, everything costs more. So when you choose to give, we don’t take it lightly. We have no paid staff and take no corporate or government money, so every dollar goes straight to the work: the records requests, the legal filings, the research that put this report on the record. Thank you, truly.”
