Wildlife Wednesday: They’re Coming for Her

Wisconsin's 2021 wolf hunt: quota exceeded by 82%, 218 wolves killed in under three days

On September 24, Senators Tammy Baldwin and Amy Klobuchar introduced S. 5519, the “Northern Great Lakes Wolf Recovery Act.” Don’t let the name fool you.

It doesn’t ask the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to look at the science. It orders them to strip wolves of federal protection in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and the U.P. Congress writes the answer, and Trump’s Interior Department signs it.

And look who gets a seat at the table: USDA and APHIS, the home of Wildlife Services. That’s the agency that just killed nine wolves in Price County.

Here’s what happens the day wolves lose protection: Wisconsin Act 169 requires a hunt. There’s no vote and no debate. The DNR’s harvest rules are already on the books, waiting.

You’ve seen what happened last time. Hounds. Traps. 218 wolves in under three days.

When no one else would, we fought back: Great Lakes Wildlife Alliance stopped a second 2021 wolf hunt

GLWA stopped the November 2021 hunt in court. We can fight again, but only if you fund us. We’re 100% volunteer and take no corporate or government money.

Is her life worth $25?

Then call. It takes 60 seconds.

Capitol switchboard: (202) 224-3121. Ask for Senator Baldwin, then Senator Klobuchar.

“Hi, I’m calling about S. 5519, the wolf delisting bill. Why is the Senator ordering delisting instead of letting the Fish and Wildlife Service decide on the science? Delisting triggers a mandatory wolf hunt in Wisconsin, and last time 218 wolves died in three days. I want her to withdraw S. 5519. Where does she stand?”
