She’s still out there.
Her pups need her
to stay that way.
Right now, somewhere in Wisconsin’s Northwoods, a wolf mother is moving through the dark — nursing her pups, feeding her pack, keeping her family alive. She doesn’t know what’s happening in the state capitol. She doesn’t know about the petition that’s been sitting on a bureaucrat’s desk for 305 days.
She just knows her pups are hungry.
What she can’t know is that she has no protections left. Federal safeguards are gone. Wisconsin’s DNR has blown past its own legal deadline — three times — without responding to our endangered species petition. And the people who want wolves dead know exactly how to use that silence.
Since we filed that petition last June, at least four Wisconsin wolves have been illegally killed in connection with wildlife killing contests. Four we know about. University of Wisconsin-Madison researchers proved what happens when protections disappear — they showed it in 2021, when 218 wolves were killed in 72 hours. It is happening again.

“Removing federal protections opens the door for antagonists to kill large numbers in short periods, legally and illegally.”
That’s not advocacy. That’s science. The same scientists who documented the 2021 massacre warned it would happen again. We are the people who showed up anyway. Last night, GLWA went to the Wisconsin Conservation Congress and made our case in the room where these decisions are made. Today we’re drafting a formal demand letter. Next week, more petitions.
We are entirely volunteer-run. No corporate money. No conditional grants that would silence us. Just relentless pressure — and your donations making it possible.
The mother wolf in the Northwoods doesn’t have a lobbyist. She has us. And right now, we need you.

A gift of $35 helps fund our legal filings. $75 supports field documentation of a killing contest site. $150 helps us press for a formal hearing on our petition. Every dollar goes directly to this fight.
