At the core of our mission is an unwavering determination to ensure the voice of our constituency is heard and to affect change in the lives of those we serve.

From Friends of the WI Wolf and Wildlife to Great Lakes Wildlife Alliance: A Journey of Advocacy and Reform

The transformation from Friends of the WI Wolf and Wildlife to the Great Lakes Wildlife Alliance was driven by a profound realization: wolves' challenges were symptomatic of broader systemic issues within wildlife management agencies. Our journey began with a passionate focus on protecting wolves in Wisconsin, but it soon became clear that the problems we encountered were not isolated to this species alone.

As we delved deeper into wildlife agencies' policies and practices, we discovered a pattern of mismanagement, lack of transparency, and insufficient accountability. Wolves, being one of the most visible and controversial species, highlighted these issues starkly. However, we recognized that other wildlife across the Western Great Lakes states was also suffering due to these systemic flaws.

Our love for all wildlife and our commitment to their protection compelled us to broaden our scope. We understood that meaningful change required a comprehensive approach, addressing the root causes of the problems rather than just the symptoms. This led to the Great Lakes Wildlife Alliance, a coalition dedicated to advocating for all wildlife in the region. We are proud to be the only organization devoted solely to wildlife issues in the Western Great Lakes.

Our mission is to reform wildlife agencies to ensure they operate with greater transparency, accountability, and a genuine commitment to conservation. We work tirelessly across Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota, collaborating with local communities, policymakers, and conservation organizations. We aim to create a future where all wildlife, from the tiniest insects to the largest predators, can thrive in a balanced and healthy ecosystem.

We address various issues, including crane hunting, trapping, hounding, baiting, and chronic wasting disease (CWD). Through education, advocacy, and grassroots activism, we strive to protect the rich biodiversity of the Great Lakes region. We believe that by addressing systemic issues and fostering a culture of respect and stewardship, we can make a lasting impact on wildlife conservation.

The journey from Friends of the WI Wolf and Wildlife to the Great Lakes Wildlife Alliance is a testament to our unwavering dedication to all wildlife. We remain committed to our vision of a world where wildlife agencies are reformed and all species are given the protection they deserve.
