The Essential Wildlife Stamp: Wisconsin’s Public Steps Up
Hunters are not taking responsibility for Wisconsin’s conservation budget deficits. They never have. Their license fees don’t fund endangered species, don’t fund non‑game wildlife, and don’t support the ecological work that keeps the entire system alive.
We do. We’ve been doing it for ten years. We predicted this crisis a year ago. We presented Nature’s Nesting and other science‑based solutions long before the Legislature dismantled the Endangered Resources Fund.
And now we’re doing it again with the Essential Wildlife Stamp — a way for the public to say: “We see these species. We value them. And we will protect them even when politicians refuse to.”
In just 48 hours, 25 people bought a stamp. Every gift is being doubled. Each stamp represents $87.50 — the same cost as a hound training license. But unlike that license, this money actually protects wildlife.
We are showing the DNR and Natural Resources Board what real public support looks like. We are showing them that Wisconsin residents will fund conservation when hunters won’t. We are showing them that we are the ones protecting the Endangered Resources Fund.
