THE FIGHT DOESN’T HIBERNATE. Neither do we.

GLWA — The Fight Doesn’t Hibernate Wisconsin’s air just hit the worst level in 16 years — and dogs are legally being run on bears in it. We filed to stop it. Every gift matched.

THE FIGHT DOESN’T HIBERNATE.
Neither do we.

This week, wildfire smoke pushed Wisconsin’s air to the most dangerous levels in at least 16 years. In the Northwoods, the Air Quality Index hit 967. The state told everyone to stay inside.

And in that poison air, in the July heat, it is still perfectly legal to run packs of dogs on black bears.

Here’s the thing: black bears can’t sweat. In heat like this, a bear does exactly what it’s built to do — rests in the shade, climbs to catch a breeze, wades into cool water. That’s survival.

Now picture that same bear run for miles by a pack of dogs instead — no shade, no water, no way to shed the heat. That’s not hunting. That’s cruelty.

What Wisconsin allows every summer

12,000–15,000 dogs — unvaccinated, unlicensed, untracked — turned loose in our public forests.

Run to collapse. Bears chased for miles in the heat. Cubs scattered from their mothers.

Since 2014, the DNR simply stopped counting how many dogs are maimed and killed.

$1.29 million+ in taxpayer money paid out for hounds killed in these forests since 1985.

When no one else would, we did.

Great Lakes Wildlife Alliance filed a formal petition demanding Wisconsin halt bear hounding during dangerous heat and smoke emergencies. We built the entire case — the science, the research, the legal filing — as an all-volunteer team. And we are not slowing down.

Every gift matched

We run on the bear necessities — no office, no salaries, no waste. Nearly every dollar goes straight to real results for wildlife.

Right now a supporter through Fidelity is matching every gift dollar for dollar. Give $25, it becomes $50. Give $100, it becomes $200.

We’re just $190 short of today’s goal — and we really do try to hit it every single day.

The cruelty doesn’t take a season off. Neither do we — and neither should your gift while it’s doubled.

We can't bear to watch and do nothing. Neither can you. Don't hibernate — give today. Every gift matched.

P.S. My Wisconsin Public Radio interview is coming any day now — the momentum is real. We can’t bear to watch and do nothing, and we know you can’t either: give now.
