Trump Just Used the “God Squad” β Here’s What It Means
Yesterday, March 31st, the Trump administration made history in the worst possible way. For the first time in over 30 years, they convened the Endangered Species Committee β nicknamed the “God Squad” β and voted unanimously to strip Endangered Species Act protections from the entire Gulf of Mexico oil and gas industry.A Cabinet panel with the power to condemn species to extinction
Created by Congress in 1978, the God Squad is a panel of six high-ranking federal officials who can grant exemptions to the Endangered Species Act β even if it means a species goes extinct. Before yesterday, they had only voted twice in nearly 50 years. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth invoked “national security” and the ongoing Iran conflict to justify removing protections for Gulf wildlife. What We’re Covering
